Uyeasound Pier

A major harbour development for the small Shetland village of Uyeasound, Unst.

  • Contract Value: £2,800,000
  • Contract Length: 15 Months
  • Started: January 2008
  • Client: Shetland Islands Council

Project Description

A new pier, slipway and industrial site is being built on the east side of the harbour. The new facilities will be used by the local salmon companies, which already operate in Uyeasound, but don’t have a proper working pier or a safe, sheltered area to moor their boats.

The pier is dogleg shaped, and uses a combination of sheet piles and a rock-armoured face on the outside for protection.

The project is on schedule and with in the original budget. Completion is expected to be March 09.
